Barney McGinley lost his life after being shot at the wedding of Matilda McGinley, 17, and 16-year-old Jimmy Connors - his son was also hit in the arm
The heartbroken young lovers whose wedding became a bloodbath when a guest was shot at point-blank range have been pictured for the first time.
Barney McGinley was killed as Matilda McGinley, 17, and 16-year-old Jimmy Connors were preparing to exchange vows.
PSNI Det Chief Insp Una Jennings said: “We are working with our colleagues in An Garda Siochana to locate those involved. We know who they are.”
Gardai and police in the North know the names of the thugs who murdered a guest at a Travellers’ wedding on Wednesday, reports the Irish Mirror.
Mr McGinley, from Longford, lost his life after he was blasted at point blank-range with a shotgun in Newtownbutler, Co Fermanagh.
Bride Matilda, 17, from Tallaght, South Dublin, put on a brave face as she went on to wed 16-year-old Jimmy.
Police urged the thugs responsible for the shocking wedding attack to “come forward before there is any further bloodshed”.
As well as 63-year-old Barney being shot dead, his son Barney Jr who is in his 30s is also believed to have been hit in the arm.
His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Concerns were growing last night there would be retaliation attacks following the shooting.
A manhunt on both sides of the border is under way in a bid to track down the suspects.
PSNI Det Chief Insp Una Jennings appealed at a press conference for those responsible to hand themselves in.
She said: “What should have been a day of joy and celebration has been turned into one of heartbreak and tragedy.
“I want to offer my sympathies to all those affected by these tragic events.
“We are following a number of very definite lines of enquiry in this investigation, thanks to accounts of events outside the church before the wedding ceremony given to us by other guests.
“We are continuing to liaise with these individuals and families at this very difficult and tragic time.
“But my appeal is for those individuals who were involved in the confrontation with Bernard McGinley and other guests in Main Street, and who drove off, to make themselves available to police.
