Brave Christian McPhilamy from Melbourne, Florida saw a TV advert for St Jude Children's Hospital and decided to do what he could to help other young people two years ago.
Now the Ocean Breeze Elementary School second grader has had the chop and given his tresses to Children with Hair Loss.
The charity, based in Michigan, offers free hairpieces to kids who have lost their hair through medical means, from burns victims to cancer sufferers, reports Florida Today.
Christian's mum Deeanna Thomas wrote on Facebook: "Two years ago my son saw a St. Jude commercial that changed his life forever."
"He chose to do his own research and find a way to help," explained the 28 year old proudly.
"After two years of growing his hair, Christian has reached his goal of donating over 10 inches in four ponytails."
"He has chosen to donate to the 'Children with hair loss' foundation. He has endured an awful lot of criticism, and yes even bullying, throughout this time.
"From his peers calling him a girl to even coaches and family friends telling him he should cut it or offering him money to.
"Even still, he has never once, strayed from his goal and always took the time to educate others on why he made the choice to grow his hair.
"I am one proud mommy as always."
Christian isn't the only selfless youngster to make the decision to help those less fortunate.
A boy called Adrian, at just eight years old, has just donated his hair to a similar cause.
His barber posted on Facebook: "[Adrian] told me he was growing his hair so he could give it to someone with cancer that has lost their hair."
