A woman is in a critical condition after shooting herself in the head while posing for a selfie.
The 21-year-old office worker was holding a gun to her temple while taking the photo but accidentally pulled the trigger, according to RIA Novosti, Russia’s state news agency.
She was rushed to Sklifosovsky hospital in Moscow where she is receiving special treatment for the wound.
Police are now investigating how the woman got hold of the gun, according to a local police spokesman.
Russian news agencies are suggesting a security guard in the building had left the 9mm pistol in the office before jetting off on holiday.

The weapon’s owner could face up to six months in prison for negligent weapon possession leading to injury.
A rise in popularity for selfies among young people has seen a number of incidents leading to critical injury and, in some cases, death.



Last week a Romanian teenager died after attempting to take the “ultimate selfie” on top of a train.
Anna Ursu, 18, was killed when her leg reportedly touched a live wire above the train which sent 27,000 volts through her body.
A witness to the act allegedly warned the teenager against it but was unable to convince her not to.
He is said to have heard a loud bang when she was electrocuted and, after rushing to help, was unable to put out the flames taht engulfed her body.
And, on Saturday, Mohammed Aslam Shahul, 21, died after falling into the sea while trying to take a selfie at the top of a cliff in Singapore.
His body was later found five meters under the water below.
