Tanzanian Designers An-Nisa Abayas, Eve Collections, Jacqueline Kibacha, Nakadhilika-NK and Nau Nuhu presented their 2015 collections during London Fashion Week 20-24th February to international press and the fashion elite in a showcase organized by the British Fashion Council and the British Council. The collections were also launched in a private view at the Tanzanian High Commission.
The showcase included designers from nearly 30 countries covering 4 continents with each presenting a curated static exhibition judged by industry experts in a panel chaired by Sarah Mower MBE, BFC Ambassador for Emerging Talent and European Editor-at-Large of Vogue.com
The Tanzanian exhibition curated by Maxine Brown explored how femininity is articulated through fashion informed by other Tanzanian ideals of faith and culture. The presentation included intricate culture beadworks, elements of traditional Masai jewellery, hand painted fabric, silks transformed into contemporary modest wear and imaginative and stylish use of Kanga and Kitenge print. Visitors commented on the luxurious and detailed pieces on the Tanzanian exhibition stand and the colour and vibrancy attracted media and public interest with designers making contact with London stockists who will house pieces from their collections.
