Lily Lindquist, 17, thought she'd blocked their family's drains but when she looked a little closer she spotted something moving
Mum Marian used a plunger, but couldn't seem to shift whatever was causing the obstruction.
When the family called a plumber, Local 10 reports Ailsa Scott, plumber for 12 years, explained: "To my surprise, I pulled out that large iguana. At first I thought it was a toy, and then it started moving around.
"I've never seen anything like this before. This is the first time I pulled something like that out of a toilet."
The iguana, sadly, did not survive the ordeal.
Iguanas occur regularly along the water's edge of the manmade lake in the Poinsettia Heights neighbourhood, and the plumber thinks this poor lizard just lost his way after coming in a rooftop vent.
Lily says she's keeping the vents closed from now on: "I don't want to be there when an iguana flies out of the toilet or an iguana bites me when I'm trying to go to the bathroom."
And mum Marian says they're sad it ended this way for the iguana: "We didn't want the iguana to die. We did not know the iguana was there."
