Behind the Design:Proof that not all swimsuits are created equal, Italian Matte Swim

Proof that not all swimsuits are created equal... It takes weeks of fittings and lots of hands-on testing (even at home in our showers) to get each Italian matte bikini and one-piece just right.

THE FABRIC

“We love the feel of the Italian matte. It’s made from a nylon-spandex that holds its stretch super-well. It’s high-tech but also totally luxe.”
Amy, swim designer

After our design team finds a color it’s crazy about, it sends it to our mill in Italy (one of the country’s best), where our Italian matte swim fabric is sourced. Next, the mill recreates the shade as precisely as possible (it can take weeks to get a perfect match). Then, the final fabric is subjected to rigorous testing—including dunks in saltwater and chlorinated water and at least 20 hours of UV exposure—to ensure the color stays brilliant and the fabric resists pilling.
“Color inspiration can come from anywhere—a raspberry snow cone, a fresh bunch of lilies, a hotel swimming pool...”

THE FIT

Four-way stretch means our Italian matte swimsuits move with you, not against you.

The design team spends over 50 hours adjusting the fit on each season’s Italian matte collection, pinning, tweaking and adjusting our suits to perfection.

“We try out all the suits ourselves to make sure the fit and quality are up to our standards. We even wear-test them in the shower.”

Our Italian matte styles are finished with a special double-needle topstitch to create smooth seams that don’t cut into your skin.

“We’ve had the same fit model for seven years, and she’s not afraid to tell us when we need to adjust a seam or tweak a silhouette—or order lunch.”
